Itīs over! Iīll leave this site up as a reminder and a museum piece for a while. No major infrastructure failures -- anywhere! Better minds than mine will have to puzzle through that one. About this site: Iīm a community organizer type person who had pretty reasonable success working on Y2k community preparedeness here in my city (St Paul, MN). Our Mayor, Norm Coleman, was the first big-city mayor to get seriously behind a city-backed community preparedness effort. We owe him a great debt for his ongoing support. Hereīs the essance of what we said (over and over <grin>).
Hereīs a link to a PowerPoint version of all this stuff that youīre welcome to review. Iīm going to take a look at this pitch in light of How Little Really Happened. Some day. Iīm fascinated by the fact that noplace experienced the kind of problem that we were preparing our community for. I think thereīs a lesson for us in there somewhere. This was a site for community organizers who were interested in community preparedness project management. Here I tried to maintain links to tools, workplans, tips, gossip and stories based on the community preparedness project we undertook here in St Paul. For information about our approach to a city-wide community preparedness project, follow the link to Project Management section. People interested in other Y2k sites with a community preparedness slant could follow the link to Learn about Y2k Here's a set of daily Y2k news sites. Hereīs a place where those of us who were leading Y2k community preparation efforts in the Twin Cities traded information. Iīm sure glad this Y2k stuff turned out to be a non-event. Iīm puzzled by the fact that nothing happened, anywhere, and may post some ruminations about that here. It would seem that the "tech community" has some explaining to do. The standard-responses ("there werenīt failures because of successful remediation") arenīt quite satisfactory. But hey! Thanks to all who helped. Onward! Mike O'Connor
